November 2010
Thursday 4th | CPD Solutions Veterinary Acupuncture Day
Venue: Studley, Warwickshire.
Info: CPD Solutions – Vets only.
Course outline:
What do you do when rest, glucosamine products, NSAIDs and surgery don’t provide a solution for managing your small animal patients with lameness and musculoskeletal pain? You can add a simple, effective and non-invasive therapy to your management toolset with acupuncture. Acupuncture has many benefits for your patients and their owners:
- Effective management of minor musculoskeletal disorders where pharmaceuticals are contraindicated; for example your geriatric, renal or NSAID-intolerant patients
- Treatment of severe musculoskeletal disorders
- Augmentation of pharmaceutical management of patients
- Satisfaction in the effective management of otherwise ‘stuck’ cases
- Excellent client compliance and enthusiasm
Specific areas to be covered include:
- How you can integrate acupuncture into your practice
- Practical needle handling - point location on live patients
- Prescription for treating hip pain using needles
- Prescription for treating back pain using needles
- Prescription for treating elbow pain using needles
- How does it work? - physiologic mechanisms of action of acupuncture
- Practical references that will help you in practice
Visit the CDP Solutions website to book, or call 0151 328 0444.
Saturday 6th - Sunday 7th | Canine Health Conference
Venue: Edinburgh – Royal Highland Centre
Info: This Canine Health Conference is organised by Action 4 Dogs in order to provide an informative platform for exchange of the latest Alternative Medicine, Nutrition and Complementary Therapies available to our canine companions.
Conventional medicine is very good at treating emergency and urgent cases, but has less success with long-standing diseases that keep appearing when drugs are stopped.
It is therefore not surprising that an upsurge in attention to holistic practices in Human & Animal Medicine would pique the interest of dog owners.
Opinions about canine nutrition vary among vets, breeders, trainers and the dog owning public. With so many different options and therapies on offer, how do we know what is best and what to choose? The bottom line is that even experts do not always agree on the best type of dog food, remedy or therapy.
This Conference will explore the various solutions and will aim at helping us to make more informed decisions.
Speakers will include:
Nick Thompson, Holistic Vet, BSc.(Hons), BVM&S, VetMFHom, MRCVS)
Sally Askew, B.Sc. (Hons), C&G SAN, MBTER, MGEOTA)
Maeve Grant, MCSP HPC ACPAT Cat A, BSc Hons Physiotherapy PgDip Vet Physio
Tom Middlemas, Owner of Hydrotherapy and Rescue Centre, St Boswells, Scottish Borders
Val Borland B.Sc. (Hons), TTouch Practitioner.
